Based in Dusseldorf, Germany, stands for the German phrase Luft Transport-Unternehmen meaning "air transport enterprise". LTU was established back in 1955 with its parent company being Air Berlin. Air Berlin acquired LTU International in March of 2007 and between the 2 carried 22.1 million passengers in 2006. In terms of traffic these 2 airlines combined are the fourth largest airline group in Europe.
